About Pingree

Pingree is a tiny unincorporated community located in a narrow band of farmland between the west banks of the Snake River and the extensive lava fields which lie further west. Pingree is far out in the Snake River Plain, and mountains are far off on the horizon. The Snake River is a few miles to the east. The elevation is 4,450 feet.

While the population of Pingree is small, perhaps 100 people, farmhouses lie scattered through the surrounding country, and Pingree sports a Mormon church and a gas station. In former days a "Country Store" was the commercial center of the area, whose intriguing stone building stands empty today in the old center of town. An old red brick schoolhouse also remains from earlier days.

Idaho Highway 39 passes through Pingree, leading to Blackfoot a reasonable drive to northwest, and Aberdeen further south. Blackfoot is the nearest city. The Aberdeen Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad also passes through Pingree, and the Aberdeen-Springfield Canal passes just to the west, supplying the irrigation water upon which the community's economy depends.
