About Moore

Moore is a farming town of the Lost River Valley. The Big Lost River passes by just east of the town. Across the valley to the east stand the Lost River Mountains, Which extend for many miles to the northwest, and contain several of Idaho’s highest peaks, including Mount Borah. The valley floor is very flat, and filled with farms and grassland. A short ways to the west, Appendicitis Hill forms the west border of the valley, a modest-sized outlier of more lofty peaks hidden behind it.

One of the first settlers at Moore was Benjamin A. Pearson, who homesteaded here in 1884. By the year 1900, there was a church. At the 2000 census, the population was 196.

U.S. Highway 93 passes through Moore, heading northward to Mackay and south to Arco. A network of rural roads also connects to Moore. The elevation is 5,473 feet. The beautiful scenery of the surrounding mountains brings a number of visitors through Moore on the highway.
