Bush Building
Clarence Bush built the Bush building in 1917. in the 1930s
and 1940s, the west side housed the Gregory Hardware Store.
In addition to the hardware, they sold harnesses, saddles, and other
tack. Customers enjoyed the hand-warming, "pot-belly" stove and
the smell of new leather. Inside the building, and inner doorway
connects the west portion of the store directly to the east store,
with it's spectacular vintage tin ceiling.
The second story, known as Bush Hall, was used as a dance hall
where, for decades, folks enjoyed "shaking a leg" to the old bands
every Saturday night. The Rupert Orchestra used the Hll for its
practices and concerts, and citizens
also held meetings in the hall.
The original hardwood dance floor is
still in very good condition. In March
2002, owners Karl & Joyce Barfuss
Removed a 1950s fiberglass facade,
which covered the entire building,
revealing the magnificent original
brickwork, tile signage and sign bands.
